37 minutes.
Short. Shocking. Educational.
The Secret Policeman is a documentary from 2003 following journalist Mark Daly as he goes undercover to expose the racism in the Greater Manchester Police force. At only 37 minutes of footage, it is a short but shocking documentary, especially viewing with 2019 eyes. There is no surprise in learning that the film sparked major changes to the UK’s policing procedure. It is bound to bring about discussion of whether times are any different now, and questions of the ethics of making the documentary.
