Uplifting. Enthralling. Personal.

I have been looking forward to part 2 of jeen-yuhs since the credits rolled on my laptop screen on part 1 a week ago. This episode did not disappoint. I don’t think I have had such a visceral, out-loud to a documentary for a long time. I don't think a disclaimer that I don't know Kanye personally is necessary, but this series really feels like sitting on the sofa flicking through a heavy photo album that is resting on your lap. There’s nothing ‘new’ technically, but there’s just so much footage and insight into the creative process of songs we know so well. I can’t remember any recent questioning of Kanye’s dedication to music, but if there are, this series is definitely putting those questions to bed. The series also continues to be a beautiful representation of friendship, between Kanye and narrator/producer Coodie. It’s a rollercoaster following along with Kanye’s journey to success, even though we already know the ending. But Coodie’s narration, and the moments he has captured make it so uplifting. It looks like the next episode handles much of the controversy, so I feel grateful to have these two episodes to provide context for what is coming up.
